This weekend, Friday September 18th and Saturday the 19th, join St. Michael's, the Black Sox, Norwich, and of course UVM in the second annual Friends of Vermont Baseball Invitational at Centennial Field.

The UVM Club Baseball team started out the season with 2 solid wins in the NECBA opener at Centennial Field on Saturday. In the opener in the win over a solid UMass Lowell team 8-1 excellent pitching was evident with Ryan Connor (BFA St. Albans) and Jacob Sprague (Randolph HS) in giving up 1 unearned run through the 7 inning contest. Offensively the Club was led by Ryan (2 hits, 2 runs), Dave Lacroix, Colchester (2 runs and 2 stolen bases), Matt Bouvier, South Burlington (2 hits and 2 RBI). Defensive standouts were Jamie Martell, Brattleboro and Derek Amodei, Carlisle, MA.
In the second game again solid pitching prevailed with Luke Russell (Harwood Union) and Zac Roy (BFA Fairfax) combined a 4 hitter for a 4-1 win for the Club Team. The offensive came up with big hits from Jacob (2 RBI) and Matt (2 RBI). Outstanding defensive plays were turned in by Luke Dolan (Underhill) and Antonio Forehand (Burlington).

This weekend will be the 2nd annual FRIENDS of VERMONT BASEBALL INVITATIONAL at Centennial Field.
The schedule is:

FRIDAY - 5pm:  St.Michaels' versus The Black Sox
7:30 St. Michael's versus the UVM Club Team

SATURDAY - noon: Norwich U versus St. Michael's
2:30pm: The Black Sox versus Norwich U
5pm: Norwich U versus The UVM Club Team

The next NECBA game is Sunday, the 20th at Centennial Field versus the University of Southern New Hampshire with the first game of the doubleheader starting at noon.

There is no admission charge. The purpose of the event is to showcase Vermont baseball and historic Centennial Field.

The FRIENDS OF VERMONT BASEBALL INVITATIONAL got under way Friday at historic Centennial Field with St. Michael's beating the Black Sox 5-4 in a well played game. In the nightcap the Club Team treated the event as a "scrimmage" with everyone playing and a different pitcher (7) each inning, St. Mike's won 11-0. The ambiance of the setting, the logistics were awesome. Thanks the Friends for their efforts and talents for putting on this event.

The 2015 FRIENDS OF VERMONT BASEBALL INVITATIONAL was won by Saint Michael's with solid pitching and sound defense they defeated the Black Sox, UVM Club Team and tied Norwich University. The tie with Norwich was a result of a time restraint of 2 hours per game. Congratulations to to the Purple Knights for an outstanding INVITATIONAL.

In the first game after falling behind 2-5 and then 2-6 the Cats clawed their way back to to 6-5 in the bottom of the 6th. Chris McAuliffe, "Big Dog" (Brattleboro) hit a 2 run bomb to put the Club ahead to stay 7-6. Carlos Fernandez (Greenwich, CT, Big Dog and Ryan Connor (St. Albans) all had 2 hits. Ryan pitched a complete game 5 hitter. Carlos made a ESPN highlight catch on the dead run in foul territory to end the game. Carlos by the way was coached in high school by Mike Mora former UVM player that played for Coach Bill Currier.


Game 2 was equally interesting as the Club prevailed 5-2. Clutch hits were provide by Cassidy Moore (Colchester), Jake Levan (South Burlington) and Dave Lacroix (Colchester). Key runs were scored by Mike  Berkley (Boxborough, MA) and Luke Dolan( Underhill). Luke Russell (Duxbury) pitched 6 strong innings striking out 7 and giving up 1 earned run. Jacob Sprague (Randolph) finished up the 7th for the save.
The Club plays this coming Sunday in the annual NECBA Showcase in Lynn, MA versus Harvard and the University of New England.

The Club team headed south to Lynn, MA for the annual NECBA Showcase. The Showcase is a gathering of all 22 NECBA teams playing doubleheaders over 2 days in the Lynn area.

The Club Team took on a quality University of New England in the first game. Matt Bouvier (South Burlington) put the Cats in the lead at the top of the 2nd inning with a long home run. New England went ahead in the 4th with 2 runs. The Club team came back in the top of the 5th with 2 runs for a  3-2 lead with key hits by Zac Roy (Fairfax), Matt and a long sacrifice fly by Jake Levan (South Burlington). The Cats broke it open in the top of the 7th with key hits from Carlos Fernandez (Greenwich, CT), Ryan Connor (St Albans), Brad Chandler (Kingston, MA) and Levan. Connor pitched a complete game 5 hitter striking out 11, at least 1 in each inning. Defensive solid plays were turned in by Fernandez and Roy.

In the second game the Club Team mercy ruled the Harvard squad 12-0 in 5 innings. Luke Russell (Duxbury) pitched 4 solid innings for the win striking out 5 giving up a single hit. The Club  had 15 hits with key hits delivered by Jamie Martell (Brattleboro), Ethan Illingsworth (Westminster), Jacob Sprague (Randolph), Mike Berkley (Boxborough, MA). Chris McAuliffe (Brattleboro) drove in 2 runs, scored 4, and hit a long home run.

The Club team returns home to Centennial Field on Saturday playing the Dartmouth Club team with the first game of the doubleheader starting at noon.

Sunday in an exhibition between former UVM players taking on the Club Team at the annual Alumni "game" starting at noon.

The UVM Club team took on Dartmouth in a NECBA league game at historic Centennial Field on Saturday and came away with a doubleheader sweep.

In the frist game behind the solid pitching of Ryan Connor, St Albans (no hits, 11 strikeouts) the Cats mercy ruled the Dartmouth squad after 6 innings 10-0. Multiple runs were scored by Chris Bernard (Corning, NY), "Big Dog" McAuliffe (Brattleboro) and Matt Bouvier (South Burlington). Chris also had 3 hits. Outstanding defensive plays were turned in by Brad Chandler (Kingston, MA), Turbo Halvorson (Shelburne) and Jamie Martell (Brattleboro)

In the second game Luke Russell (Duxbury) turned in a complete game 2 hitter with 11 strikeouts in a 9-0 victory. The Club team scored 4 runs in the first inning on big hits by Luke, Carlos Fernandez (Greenwich, CT) and Antonio Forehand (Burlington). Jake Levan (South Burlington) and Jacob Sprague (Randolph) also chipped in with 2 hits apiece. Outstanding defensive plays were turned in by Cassidy Moore (Colchester) and Turbo Halvorson.

The Club next travels to UNH on Saturday to take on a strong New Hampshire club. For more information google necba for updates on league schedule and game results.

The UVM Club team ran into a very good UNH team on Saturday in Lawrence, MA dropping a  1-8 and 0-9.

In the first game Ryan Connor (St. Albans) ran in to a very good hitting team, giving up 7 hits and 3  earned runs. On  the offensive side the Club Team had hits from Ryan, Jake Levan (South Burlington), Chris McAuliffe (Brattleboro), Matt Bouvier (South Burlington) and Turbo Halvorson (Shelburne).


In the nightcap, hits from the Club Team came from Dave Lacroix (Colchester), Antonio Forehand (Burlington), Zac Roy (Fairfax) and Brad Chandler (Kingston, MA). Luke Russell (Duxbury) took the loss. Zac pitched 2 scoreless innings.

The team finishes up the regular season with doubleheader at Franklin Pierce on Saturday.

On Saturday the Club team took on a very solid Franklin Pierce team that had lost only 1 game in the NECBA this season. In 2 exciting games the Cats won a doubleheader 10-8 and 9-4.

In the first game behind some outstanding hitting the Cats came from a 6-6 tie in the 4th inning to score 4 in the 5th and go on to a 10-8 victory. Jacob Sprague (Randolph) was the winner in relief. Multiple hits were produced by Big Dog McAuliffe (Brattleboro), Jake Levan (South Burlington) including 2 home runs and Brad Chandler (Kingston, MA) and the team collected a total of 12 hits. Outstanding defensive plays were turned in by Zac Roy (Fairfax) in left Jamie Martell (Brattleboro)   behind the plate and Chandler at shortstop.

The nightcap proved to be equally interesting as the Club came from a 4 run (first inning) deficit to pull out a 9-4 win. Luke Russell (Duxbury) after a 44 pitch first inning settled down and allowed no hits the rest of the way. He was truly in command. Key hits were garnered by Turbo Halvorson (Shelburne), Mike Berkley (Boxborough, MA), Luke Dolan (Underhill), Thomas Roberts (Brandon) and Levan.

With the wins the team won the Northwest Division league championship with a 10-2 record. We now wait to see the seeding for the NECBA tournament which starts this coming weekend. For updated information google necba to find out the tourney schedule.

The UVM club Team concluded their good season (10-3) with NECBA quarterfinal loss to Bridgton Academy in Biddeford, ME 3-8 on Sunday. The team was led at the plate by Ryan Connor (St. Albans) and Matt Bouvier (S. Burlington). Ryan took the loss. Zac Roy (Fairfax) came in the 6th in relief and struck out 4 of the 9 batter he faced.
